The NDB-SS05 is a complete Dual Non-Directional Navigational Beacon system built to ICAO Annex 10 requirements. It is designed for continuous duty, outdoors operation, easy maintenance and is supported by a full complement of accessories and spare parts.

Features

  • Dual system - automatic switchover
  • All-weather enclosure
  • Modular construction
  • Microprocessor controlled
  • No special programming tools
  • Built-in fault detection
  • Remote control option

Remote control option

The NDB-SS05 TX dual transmitter system is built using two system modules which operate independently and allow for easy field replacement. All modules are easily accessible. Output current, sub-module voltages, modulation and internal temperature are continuously monitored by a digital microprocessor and displayed locally on the built-in instrument or remotely, via the optional remote control. The output current is also displayed on the antenna coupler analogue meter. Faults are easily detected and traced to the module level using the built-in LED indicators, test points and measuring instruments.

In case of a serious malfunction (power output reduction to 50% or less, absence or continuous presence of modulation) an alarm is generated and the stand-by unit is placed in operation automatically. In case of mains power failure the unit automatically switches to battery power and back. Batteries are automatically recharged by the built-in charger.

Transmitter frequency selection is made either through a crystal change or by synthesizer programming. Beacon identification (IDENT) is jumper-selectable; no special programming tools are required.

In addition to the Morse-code output, the transmitter carrier may be voice-modulated via a microphone or line input.

Both transmitter and antenna coupler units are housed in weatherproof enclosures, suitable for all-weather operation.

Monitor Receiver

The NDB-SS02 RX monitor receiver is a self-contained unit, suitable for rack mount or stand-alone operation. The receiver provides alarm indications on IDENT absence or loss of carrier. Receiver frequency selection is made either through a crystal change or by synthesiser programming. Audio output is provided both via a built-in speaker and 600 Ω line.

Remote Control

The NDB-SS05 RC allows remote reporting of system parameters and alarm indications as well as control of the NDB via dial-up or leased line and local control via a personal computer. Commands include transmitter selection, system shut-down, locator and auxiliary output control.

Locator beacon ON/OFF remote control is possible via the NDB-SS02R VHF unit that responds to the approaching aircraft's VHF transmitter repeated PTT activation.
